From an idea about shared driveways to an app that handles street parking across the Netherlands. Always with the same mission: parking should be invisible.
Three students and a frustration
The story of SimplePark didn’t begin in a boardroom, but in university classrooms and on the streets. As students, we moved through the city every day and kept seeing the same thing: cars endlessly circling in search of a parking spot, while parking itself felt unnecessarily complicated. What started as frustration quickly became a conviction: parking demands too much attention for something that should simply work.
Every square metre counts
Cities are becoming less car-focused and every square metre is more valuable than ever. Sharing is no longer a novelty but a necessity to keep our cities livable. Our original idea was simple but powerful: sharing private parking spaces. Why build new parking garages when the capacity already exists, but simply isn’t being used?
The chicken-and-egg problem
The vision was clear and charging was already on the roadmap. But as young entrepreneurs, we ran into a tough reality: building a two-sided marketplace. To rent out driveways you need drivers, and to attract drivers you need plenty of driveways. Without a multi-million budget you can’t build both sides at once. We had the technology and the vision, but not yet the scale.
The foundation for more
Instead of giving up, we turned our strategy around: where can we make the biggest impact today? The answer was right in front of us, on the street. We launched SimplePark with a clear focus on street parking: fast and easy, without unnecessary steps or hassle. Street parking wasn’t the destination but the starting point. Today thousands of users rely on SimplePark every day.
The future
SimplePark is more than a parking app; it’s a step toward smarter and more efficient use of space. What began on the street continues to grow, into parking garages and smart integrations around electric vehicle charging. That is how we make parking ever more effortless and cities ever more livable.
