Where to park in Bergen op Zoom
Parking in Bergen op Zoom is not arranged by the municipality itself, but by Parkeerbeheer Bergen op Zoom. That organisation manages the two car parks and checks the paid-parking areas. For a visit to the centre those car parks are the easiest choice. De Parade on Wassenaarstraat is the largest, with 400 spaces and a clearance of 2.05 metres; from there you walk about 400 metres to the Grote Markt. Grote Markt car park on Koepelstraat is smaller, with 150 spaces and 2.00 metres clearance, and lies about 300 metres from the square. In both car parks there are spaces with a charging point.
On the street the rate and paid hours differ per parking meter. Parkeerbeheer does not put those in a list on the site, but on a map: click a meter and you see the street name, the rate, the hours and the pay-by-phone code for mobile parking.
Sundays, shopping Sundays and public holidays
Bergen op Zoom is generous with free days. On Sundays and on a number of official public holidays, among others New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, King's Day, Ascension Day, Whit Sunday and Christmas Day, you park free across the city. On the shopping Sundays, every last Sunday of the month, the car parks are moreover free between 11.00 and 18.00. Outside those hours the car-park rates apply on Sunday as usual, because the car parks charge 24 hours a day.
Paying and enforcement
In the car parks everything works by licence plate: check in with your card at the entrance, check out at the exit and the amount is taken automatically. On the street you park by licence plate at the meter or with a parking app; the pay-by-phone code is on Parkeerbeheer's map and on the sign at the meter. With SimplePark you start the session when you come to a stop and stop it when you drive away, so you only pay the minutes you were actually there.
