Parking in Den Helder
In Den Helder parking is free in most places. In a blue zone you use a parking disc; there is little or no paid on-street parking.
In City center, zone 1 you can stay up to 180 minutes with a parking disc.
Free, with a disc in the center
Den Helder has no paid on-street parking. Parking is free, and to keep the center accessible there are five blue zones: three in the center, including Van Galenbuurt zuidoost and Sluisdijkbuurt, and two outside it at Het Nieuwe Diep and Weststraat-Keizersgracht. In those zones you use a parking disc and may park for max. 3 hours, from Monday to Saturday between 9:00 and 18:00. In the evening and on Sunday the zones do not apply and you can park for free with no time limit.
How to set the parking disc
When you arrive in a blue zone, set the disc to the next full or half hour and place it clearly visible behind the windscreen. The 3 hours count from that time. If you want to stay longer, check the map of the blue zones on the municipality's website and park outside them; parking in Den Helder is mostly free. You do not need a parking app here, so there is no parking action to stop either.
Exemption linked to your registration
Residents and businesses in a blue zone can apply for an exemption at Parkeerservice Den Helder, max. two per address and only valid in their own zone. An exemption is issued on license plate; there is no pass, at checks your license plate is scanned. A business can link up to ten plates to one exemption and switch online which car is using it at that moment.

For long-stay parking in the center there are the Sluisdijk and Koninckshoek car parks. For both, no new subscriptions are being issued at the moment.
