Parking in Ridderkerk

Something fundamental is changing in Ridderkerk: paid parking in the centre is being converted to a blue zone. Where you now still have to pay, you will put a parking disc behind your windscreen and park two hours for free. The municipality is doing this as a trial of just over a year.
The reason is the redesign of the centre. In Deelgebied 1, around Jan Steenstraat, the intention was already to temporarily abolish paid parking during the works. Because it is still unclear when those works will start, the trial has been chosen instead. That way the municipality can measure the effect of a blue zone in a normal situation, so without roadworks.
When it starts
The trial starts once the signs have been placed and the blue markings have been applied on the street. Until then the existing situation applies. If you drive to the centre now, look carefully at the signs and the markings at the spot where you park: those take precedence. During the trial period an external agency assesses how the zone works out, and only once the works in the centre are finished will it be decided whether the blue zone stays.
Disc on the street, pay in the car park
Important to know: the conversion applies only to on-street parking. For Ridderkerk's car parks nothing changes; paid parking simply remains there. In practice that means two regimes side by side: a disc on the street, a payment in the car park. So check exactly where you are.
