The center switches to the disc

In Ridderkerk, on-street paid parking in the center has been converted to a blue zone. Where you used to pay, you now put a parking disc behind your windscreen and park for 2 hours free. The zone applies at the same times as the old paid parking. The municipality is running this as a trial of just over a year, which started in late 2025.

The reason is the redesign of the center. In Deelgebied 1, around Jan Steenstraat, the intention was already to temporarily abolish paid parking during the works. Because it was unclear when those works would start, the trial was chosen instead. That way the municipality can measure the effect of a blue zone in a normal situation, without roadworks.

How the trial continues

The trial started once the signs had been placed and the blue markings applied on the street. So check the signs and the markings at the spot where you park: those are what counts. A few bays have a shorter maximum of half an hour, such as on Kerkweg and in P.C. Hooftstraat. During the trial period an external agency assesses how the zone works out, and only once the works in the center are finished will it be decided whether the blue zone stays.

Disc on the street, pay in the car park

Important to know: the conversion applies only to on-street parking. For Ridderkerk's car parks nothing changes; paid parking simply remains there. In practice that means two regimes side by side: a disc on the street, a payment in the car park. So check exactly where you are.
