On public holidays paid hours are often different from a normal day, but which ones differs per municipality. One municipality treats a holiday like a Sunday and does not charge, another charges as usual. Shopping Sundays, events and market days can also change the rules temporarily. So never rely on an assumption; look at the sign or in the app.
How municipalities handle it
- Holiday as Sunday. Many municipalities apply the Sunday schedule on official public holidays. If Sunday parking is free, it is free on such a holiday too.
- Holiday as a normal day. Large cities with paid parking on Sunday usually charge on holidays too.
- Shopping Sundays and events. Around a festival, a market or a shopping Sunday, a municipality can temporarily introduce paid parking or extend the hours. That is shown on temporary signs.
How to check
- Open the app where you are and look at today's paid hours for the zone.
- Look at the sign next to your car, at the sub-sign and at any temporary signs.

What the app does on a public holiday
If the municipality has configured a holiday as a free day, that day appears in the zone's rate table as a single Free row and you need not start a session. If the normal schedule applies, the app works as always. If you start a session on a day without paid hours anyway, we charge no service fee.
Still in doubt?
Then simply start a session. If there are no paid hours, it costs nothing. If there are, you are paid. That is always cheaper than the risk of a fine of around € 80.
