Blue zone or paid parking
Alphen aan den Rijn has two kinds of regulated parking. In the blue zones you park 2 hours free, provided you set a parking disc to your arrival time. You recognize such a zone by the blue stripe along the curb or on the road. The arrangement applies Monday to Saturday between 9.00 and 17.00; in the Kerk en Zanen neighborhood it only runs until 13.00. On public holidays and on days that count as Sunday, you do not have to set the disc. If you forget the disc or stay longer than 2 hours, you risk a fine.
There is also paid parking: on the street, in Castellum car park, on the rooftop car parks and in the open-air car parks. Those rates are managed by ParkeerService; the P+R Sacharovlaan / Dwarsligger car park is run by QPark and has its own rate. Check the meter or the municipality's site for what applies at your spot.
Permits and visitors
For two of the blue zones, residents and businesses can apply for a parking permit at ParkeerService. For the other blue zones no permits are available; there the disc applies to everyone. If you have a disabled parking badge, you may park in every blue zone with no time limit.
Paying with your phone
If you have parked on a spot where you have to pay, you do not have to walk to the meter: with SimplePark you start the parking action on your phone and stop it when you drive away. You only pay for the time you are parked, in the unit the municipality uses, so you do not have to estimate in advance how long you will stay.
