Where to park in Gouda

Gouda is divided into eight numbered sectors, and the gap between the most expensive and the cheapest is large. Sector 1, the city center, is deliberately the dearest; the sites at the edge, Klein Amerika, Schouwburgplein and Vossenburchkade, cost € 2.60 or € 2.10 per hour, against € 5.00 in the center, and are within walking distance of the Markt and the Sint-Janskerk. The residential districts Kort Haarlem and Korte Akkeren are paid areas too.

For visitors the municipality's advice is fairly clear: drive into one of the three car parks or leave your car on one of the sites around them. Stationsgarage is the cheapest of those, with half the hourly rate at the weekend and a day rate well below that of the city center. If you come back by train, there is a separate public-transport day rate.

Paying until midnight

What makes Gouda different from most town centers: paid parking runs through to 24.00. From Monday to Saturday it starts at 9.00; in the center and in the Kort Haarlem and Korte Akkeren sectors you also pay on Sunday from 12.00 through to midnight. If you go out for dinner in the evening, you have to take that into account.

On the other hand, there is a long list of free public holidays. If you visit someone in a paid sector, ask whether they register your license plate in the visitor scheme; the rate for that is well below the ordinary on-street rate.

Paying and enforcement

On the street you enter your license plate at the meter or start a parking action in an app. Parking is run by Coöperatie ParkeerService, which also manages the sector map and the permits. In Stationsgarage you can pay by phone as well.
