Nieuwegein manages parking through ParkeerService, and it shows: the municipality is divided into nine zones, each with its own hourly rate and its own paid hours. Anyone coming to the town center usually chooses one of the three car parks: Cityplaza, Stadshuis or Theater. There you pay € 3.30 per hour between 6:00 and 23:00, with a day maximum of € 18.80. The intermediate caps are handy: a morning between 8:00 and 12:00 costs at most € 3.80 and an evening between 18:00 and 8:00 at most € 7.50.

On-street the differences are substantial. In the most expensive zones C1, D1, D2, W2 and W3 you pay € 5.20 per hour. In neighborhood zones M1 and W1 that is € 2.50 and in M2 and M3 only € 1.70. If you park in M3, even a reduced rate of € 0.90 per hour applies for the first hour and a half. Parking a few streets further on can therefore save you a lot.

The paid hours differ as sharply as the rates. C1, D1, D2 and W3 run on weekdays and Saturday from 9:00 to 20:00; M1 and W1 stop at 17:00 and M3 already at 14:00. Zone W2 is the exception: there you pay around the clock, 7 days a week. On Sunday a payment obligation applies in C1, D1, D2, W2 and W3, not in the M-zones and W1. So always check on the meter which zone you have in front of you.
