Where to park in Geldrop and Mierlo

The municipality consists of two towns that behave very differently. In Mierlo you park for free almost everywhere; only around Huize Bethanië and the doctors' centre on Heer van Scherpenzeelweg is there a blue zone for which you need a disc. In Geldrop the centre is a paid area, with a ring of free spaces around it.

That free ring is the most convenient for visitors: behind the post office, behind the Weeffabriek and at the car park at the castle you leave your car without arranging anything. On De Meent, where the town hall also stands, the municipality introduced paid parking from 6 July. If you want to stand closer to the shops, you pay the hourly rate at the other centre locations.

The free second hour and the places where it does not apply

Geldrop has a scheme you do not see everywhere: you pay for the first hour, and the second hour is free. For shopping, the hairdresser or a terrace that makes a real difference. The exception is in the streets where parking duration is kept deliberately short, such as Bogardeind and Langstraat. There you may stand for at most one hour and the free second hour does not apply. Which rule applies, you read on the meter and you see it in your parking app.

Paid parking applies from Monday to Saturday between 9.00 and 18.00. Outside those hours you can stand freely in the centre. Watch the car park at Anna Ziekenhuis: that is not municipal, and its own hours and rates apply there.

Paying without the fuss

At the meter you enter your licence plate; checks are by licence plate, so a typing error costs you an additional parking-tax assessment. With SimplePark you skip the meter: you start your session as soon as you stop and stop it when you drive away, and you pay by the minute. Handy in a centre where the daily maximum quickly comes into view and where it is hard to judge in advance whether you will stay half an hour or an hour and a half.
