Where to park in Helmond
Helmond has changed a great deal in recent years for anyone arriving by car. The center is car-free and the municipality is deliberately moving parking off the street into the car parks: Boscotondo, Doorneind, the Elzas car park at Elzaspassage and Ameidewal. Many spaces on the street in the center have already gone, and a large part of that area has a waiting list for residents' permits. As a visitor, head straight for a car park. All car parks are within walking distance of the center, and a parking guidance system sends you to a spot that still has space.
Also watch out for the no-parking zone: in parts of the center you may only park in the marked bays, as signs indicate. If you leave your car where no bay is marked, you are parked illegally, even if there is no meter nearby.
License-plate access: driving into the center
The bollards in the city center have gone and since 1 November 2023 cameras do the work. They register your license plate when you drive into or out of the pedestrian area. If you have no exemption, a fine follows via the CJIB, and that rule applies to every vehicle with a license plate, including scooters and speed pedelecs. If you push your scooter, the rule does not apply. Loading and unloading is allowed without a permit within the time windows: in the center from Monday through Friday from 7:00 to 11:00, in Brandevoort daily from 8:45 to 11:45.
Paying and opening hours
Doorneind and Boscotondo each have their own opening hours, and those differ a lot: Boscotondo is open on Friday and Saturday night until 3:30, Doorneind closes as early as 18:00 on Sunday. So before you plan an evening in town, check how late you can get your car out. On a paid on-street spot you pay at the meter or with your phone.
