Where to park in Helmond

Helmond has changed character quite firmly in recent years for anyone arriving by car. The centre is car-free and the municipality is deliberately moving parking off the street into the car parks: Boscotondo, Doorneind, the Elzas car park at Elzaspassage and Ameidewal. Many spaces on the street in the centre have already gone, and a large part of that area has a waiting list for residents' permits. As a visitor you therefore pick a car park straight away. All car parks are within walking distance of the centre, and a parking guidance system sends you to a spot that still has space.

Also watch the no-parking zone: in parts of the centre you may only stand in the parking bays, and that is indicated with signs. If you put your car down where no bay is marked, you are in the wrong, even if there is no meter nearby.

Licence-plate access: driving into the centre

The bollards in the city centre have gone and since 1 November 2023 cameras do the work. They register your licence plate when you drive into or out of the pedestrian area. If you have no exemption, a fine follows via the CJIB, and that rule applies to every vehicle with a number plate, so also to a scooter or speed pedelec. If you walk your scooter by hand, you do not need to. Loading and unloading is allowed without a permit within the time windows: in the centre from Monday through Friday from 07:00 to 11:00, in Brandevoort daily from 08:45 to 11:45.

Paying and opening hours

Doorneind and Boscotondo each have their own opening hours, and those differ a lot: Boscotondo is open on Friday and Saturday night until 03.30, Doorneind already closes on Sunday at 18.00. So check before you plan an evening in town until when your car can get out. On a paid on-street spot you pay at the meter or with your phone. With SimplePark you start the session as soon as you stop and stop it when you drive off, so you pay per minute and do not have to guess in advance how long you will stay.
