Three towns, three regimes

Gooise Meren is the merger of Bussum, Naarden and Muiden, and you notice that in the parking rules. Paid parking applies in Bussum centre, in parts of Muiden and in Naarden only on Pater Wijnterlaan and Zwarteweg. In the rest of the municipality you do not need to arrange anything.

In Bussum and Naarden it is simple: one hourly rate, free on Sunday and also on most public holidays: New Year's Day, Good Friday, both Easter days, King's Day, Liberation Day, Ascension Day, both Whit days and both Christmas days. On Friday paid parking runs into the evening at most locations.

Muiden charges differently

Muiden is the exception, and that has everything to do with the Muiderslot and the harbour area. There paid parking applies every day from 9.00 to 21.00, Sundays and public holidays included. On top of that the rate is progressive: the first two hours are still manageable, then each following hour becomes more than three times as expensive. If you want to spend an afternoon at the castle and the town, you are therefore better off driving straight to P1 or P2. Those two sites are free, also for the Muiderslot itself.

Paying and enforcement

You can pay at the meter with a debit card, or with a parking app on your phone. Checks are by licence plate, so enter your licence plate carefully. A wrong letter means that for the enforcement officer you have not paid. If a meter is broken, walk to the next one; the municipality does not refund you if you forget to start.
