A municipality of parking discs
Ouder-Amstel regulates parking almost entirely with the parking disc. In the center of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel a blue zone applies from Monday to Saturday between 08:00 and 18:00, where you may stay a maximum of an hour and a half. That is kept short on purpose: so everyone can come by car to do the shopping without the spaces being occupied all day.
On the Sluisplein the same zone of an hour and a half applies, but there 7 days a week, from Monday to Sunday between 08:00 and 18:00. And Duivendrecht falls entirely within a blue zone. The reason is the location: visitors to Amsterdam and travelers to Schiphol left their car in the residential streets, and the disc zone puts an end to that.
Paid parking on the Amstel Business Park
There is one area where you really have to pay in Ouder-Amstel: the Ouder-Amstel part of the Amstel Business Park. Paid parking applies there from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 18:00. The municipality does not publish the hourly rate on its parking pages, so check the meter on site. At the weekend and in the evening you park there without paying.
Disc, exemption and the app
In the blue zones it is simple: parking disc set to your arrival time, visible behind the windscreen, and gone again within an hour and a half. If you live or work in a zone and have no parking space of your own, you can apply for an exemption; in the center of Ouderkerk there is a maximum of one per residential address and the municipality works with a waiting list.
