Where to park in Rotterdam
Rotterdam charges in three rings. In the centre you pay the high rate, in the neighbourhoods around it the mid rate and in the outer neighbourhoods the low rate. If you come into town for an afternoon, you would do well to leave the car at a P+R on the edge: parking there is free for visitors and by tram or metro you are on the Coolsingel within a quarter of an hour. If you do want to go into the centre, the municipal car parks are cheaper than the street.
Going to De Kuip? Zone 900 around the stadium charges the centre's high rate on match and event days. On other days it is an ordinary outer neighbourhood.
Until when you pay
In many neighbourhoods paid parking applies until 23:00; in the centre area on Friday and Saturday even until 01:00. On public holidays the Sunday hours apply, which you find on the meter and on the municipality's parking map. Anyone coming home in the evening in a residential neighbourhood has a better chance of a space as a result; that is the point of the policy.
Enforcement
Rotterdam checks with scan cars. The meter no longer issues a ticket: you enter your licence plate or start a session in the app, and the scan car reads your licence plate. A typo in your licence plate is therefore an additional assessment. If you forget to stop your session, you keep paying.
