First hour free, everywhere in the centre

Kerkrade does something few municipalities do: in Kerkrade-Centrum you park the first hour free, at every location. Only after that you pay, and the closer to the centre, the higher the rate: € 1.60 per hour at the centre locations with a maximum of € 8.80 per day, and € 1.10 per hour at the other spots and Europaplein with a maximum of € 5.50. On Saturday that last rate is € 0.90.

Paid parking applies from Monday through Saturday between 9:00 and 19:00. On Sunday you park free everywhere all day.

Three ways to pay

The municipality distinguishes three kinds of spots. In the car park you take a ticket. On the parking sites camera parking applies: a camera registers your licence plate when you drive on, and after your visit you enter the licence plate at the meter to settle. Along the roads in the centre there are meters with licence-plate entry, where you pay in advance. In all cases you can also start your session in the app.

Where it goes wrong

Two things to remember. Anyone who stays on the site longer than ten minutes after paying at the meter gets a fine on the licence plate. And at the meters along the road an end time is on your ticket: if you are back later, that is an additional parking-tax assessment. With a session in the app the time runs until you stop it, and that is exactly why you also have to stop it.
