Where to park in Middelburg

In Middelburg's city centre your car stands in the parking bays and you pay at the meter. From the approach roads, signs point you to the car parks and garages around the centre, and there the municipality has deliberately kept the rates lower than on-street. If you come for an afternoon's shopping or for the Abdijcomplex, the garage is almost always the cheapest choice: € 2.30 per hour versus € 3.20 on-street.

If you want to pay nothing at all, drive on to the Oude Veerseweg car park. That is unpaid and lies a five to ten minute walk from the city centre. Only in early August can you not use it, because the fairground caravans stand there then. The Segeerssingel car park behind the station is free as well. The adjoining Q-Park P+R site is meant for dropping off and collecting train passengers and has its own rates.

The progressive rate and the zones

Since June 2025 Middelburg charges a rising hourly rate on-street. In the yellow zone you pay € 3.20 per hour for the first two hours and € 6.40 after that. On the Damplein, the purple zone, that threshold only kicks in after four hours. The green zone, Hof van Tange, Loskade and Molenwater, stays at € 3.20 per hour all day, with a day ticket of € 16.00. Paid parking applies from Monday to Saturday between 8:00 and 20:00.

On Sunday and on national public holidays you park for free in Middelburg, including in the car parks. You do then have to stand neatly in the bays and leave the permit-holder spaces clear. Just outside the city centre lie blue zones, where you may stay a maximum of two hours with a parking disc.

Paying and enforcement

Middelburg uses licence-plate parking and checks with a scan car: you do not have to put a ticket behind the windscreen, but your licence plate does have to be correct. If you enter it wrong, the scan car sees an unpaid car. With SimplePark you start the session as soon as you stop and stop it when you drive off; you pay per minute, so with a rising rate you do not have to guess in advance how long you will stay.
