Where to park in Sluis municipality
Sluis municipality runs from the villages inland to the seaside resorts on the North Sea, and the parking policy follows that split. Along the coast you may only park on the designated spaces, and those are paid in the season. These are sizeable sites: Parking Walendijk and Parking Slikkenburg at Breskens, Kanaalweg, Vlamingpolder and Van Grol at Cadzand-Bad, Tankval, Groese Duintje and Puijendijk at Groede, Radartoren, 't Gemaal, the Parkeeronthaalkamer and Matour at Nieuwvliet, and Zwinparking Noordijk and Duinweg at Retranchement.
In the shopping centers it works differently. Oostburg and Breskens have a blue zone where you park free with a parking disc, and in the towns of Sluis and Cadzand-Bad parking is arranged with license-plate permits.
The season and the disc
On the coast paid parking applies from 15 March through 15 November, daily between 11.00 and 18.00. Outside that window and outside that period it costs nothing. Only the center of Cadzand-Bad falls outside that: there you pay all year, in that same time slot from 11.00 to 18.00.
In the blue zone of Oostburg you may park a maximum of 2 hours from Monday to Saturday between 9.00 and 16.00. Breskens uses the same 2 hours, but every day of the week between 9.00 and 18.00. Two spots differ: at the Plus supermarket car park you may park for one and a half hours and on Panoramaweg only 1 hour.
Paying and enforcement
At a parking meter you first enter your car's license plate and then pay with cash or debit card, including contactless. Note: with a cash payment the meter does not give change. An enforcement officer then scans the license plates of parked cars to check whether they have paid. Do I have to pay on the Sluis coast all year?
No. From 15 March through 15 November paid parking applies on the designated parking spaces along the coast between 11.00 and 18.00. Outside that period it is free. The center of Cadzand-Bad is the exception, because there paid parking applies all year between 11.00 and 18.00.
May I turn the parking disc forward in Sluis?
No. Turning a blue parking disc forward is not allowed. Put the disc visibly behind your windscreen with your arrival time on it. You recognize a blue zone by the blue markings on the road and the traffic sign at the start of the zone.
