Where you pay in Súdwest-Fryslân
Súdwest-Fryslân is a large municipality with dozens of towns, and in most of them you simply park for free. Only in Sneek and Bolsward are some of the spaces paid, and even there the first half hour is free everywhere, provided you register your license plate at the meter or start the parking action in your app. For an errand or a coffee you are therefore often done without paying.
If you want to stay longer, both places have free sites within walking distance of the center. In Bolsward those are Parkstraat and Badweg. In Sneek you can use P Station Sneek on Kanaalstraat, Zuidersportpark on Alexanderstraat, where a free shared bike is waiting, and part of P-West Theater and P-Noord Bolswarderpoort. On those last two sites, signs show which part is paid and where the meter is.
Two car parks with 24 hours free
Sneek's two car parks are the municipality's most striking arrangement: in the Normandiagarage (P-Oost) and the car park at the Waterpoort (P-Zuid) the first 24 hours are free. You take a ticket on entry, and if you drive out again within 24 hours, you pay nothing. If you stay longer, the rate per half hour starts running and you may stay a maximum of 1 week. Entry is possible between 7.00 and 23.00; you can always exit.
Hours and paying
In Sneek paid parking applies from Monday to Saturday from 9.00 to 21.00 and on Sundays and public holidays from 13.00 to 21.00. Bolsward uses shorter hours: on Monday to Thursday and on Saturday until 18.30, on Friday until 21.00, and on Sundays and national public holidays it is free there. You pay by license plate; you no longer get a paper ticket, so watch your end time carefully.
