Where to park in Waterland

Waterland handles parking in two ways, and which of the two applies depends on the town you are in. On Marken the large car park sits at the edge of the village: there you pay, and it is where most day visitors end up. In Monnickendam, Broek in Waterland and Ilpendam it is the parking disc that matters.

On Marken's large site an hour costs € 3.90 and a full day at most € 12.00. You can settle per 10 minutes and also pay by phone, which is handy if you do not know how long you will stay in the village. Paid parking applies there every day between 8.00 and 20.00, so also at the weekend. The ordinary rate also applies on the disabled parking spaces on the site.

Parking disc zones by town

The historic town centre of Monnickendam has been a parking-disc zone since 30 June 2025. You put your disc behind the windscreen and stay there at most two hours; Galgeriet and Bolwerk fall outside the zone. The rule applies from Monday to Saturday between 9.00 and 19.00. The municipality introduced the zone because visitors drove round and round looking for a space.

In Broek in Waterland the disc applies on Parallelweg, from Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 17.00. In Ilpendam that is Aalduikerweg, from Monday to Saturday between 9.00 and 17.00. And on Marken, besides the paid site, there is also Boxenring, where the disc applies around the clock: from Monday to Sunday from 0.00 to 24.00.

Paying on Marken

On the Marken car park you can use the meter, but mobile parking works there too. With SimplePark you start the session as soon as you stop and you stop it when you drive away, so you pay by the minute: an hour in the village then costs exactly an hour. In the disc zones no app is needed: there all that counts is that your disc is set to your arrival time.
