Parking in Amsterdam: rates, zones and hours
On-street parking in Amsterdam costs €1.29 to €5.37 per hour, depending on the area. The cheapest area is Weesp and the most expensive is Centrum. Where to park in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is split into parking zones, and each zone has its own rate and its own paid hours. The difference is large: in borough Centrum you pay between € 5.37 and € 8.05 per hour, while parking in city area Weesp stands at € 1.29 per hour. Even within one borough it varies. In Nieuw-West it runs from € 1.72 to € 5.37 per hour, in Oost from € 4.19 to € 6.98 and in West and Zuid from € 3.01 to € 6.98. Zuidoost has one rate: € 1.72 per hour. The municipality publishes the exact zone per street on a parking map, on which you also see the parking meters, the P+R sites and the municipal car parks.
Anyone who stays longer rarely chooses the street. Around the city lie P+R sites such as Sloterdijk, Zeeburg II, Boven 't Y, Olympisch Stadion, P1 ArenA and RAI, where you get a discount on the parking rate if you travel from there by public transport to the centre area. At Boven 't Y and Zeeburg II you can also use P+R Fiets. Further from the city there are still P+R sites at among others Breukelen, Muiden, Sassenheim and Alkmaar station; according to the municipality many spaces there are free.
Zones, car parks and public holidays
Besides the street the municipality has its own car parks, including Rokin, Marnix, Albert Cuyp, Piet Hein, De Hallen and the car park under the Stadhuis. On the parking map you tick 'garage gemeente' to see where they lie.
On public holidays you should not count on a free spot: then the same rates and hours apply as on Sunday. King's Day is the exception, because then on-street parking is free across the city. For the car parks and parking sites nothing changes on public holidays.
Paying and enforcement
On the street you park by licence plate: at the meter or through a parking app. With SimplePark you start the session as soon as you come to a stop and stop it when you drive away, so you pay per minute.
