Two rates, and a free Sunday
Purmerend has roughly two prices. In the center, at the car park behind the town hall, on Stationsweg and in Zuiderpolder you pay € 3.25 per hour. In the ring around it that is € 1.85 per hour: Gors-Noord, Hazepolder, Kop West, the Wagenweggebied, the Waterlandkwartier, Weidevenne and the Wherekant car park. At Beatrixplein the same low rate applies with a day maximum of € 6.25, which makes it the best spot for a long day.
You pay from Monday to Saturday, 9:00 to 21:00. On Sundays and public holidays street parking in Purmerend is completely free: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter, King's Day, Liberation Day (5 May), Ascension Day, Whitsun, and Christmas Day and Boxing Day. That applies only on the street: in the car parks you keep paying on those days.
Three car parks in the center
Purmerend has three car parks in the center: Claxonate on Schoolplein, the Stadhuisplein car park on Purmersteenweg and the Eggert car park at Eggert shopping center. They are all paid between 7:00 and 22:00, including Sundays and public holidays, and between 22:00 and 7:00 you park there for free. Claxonate charges per minute after the first 20 minutes and is capped at € 9.60 per 24 hours; at Eggert you pay per half hour with a maximum of € 12.00 per day.
Scan car and the app
The municipality checks with a scan car: it drives past and reads license plates. If you forgot to start your parking action, you have not paid and you risk a parking fine (naheffingsaanslag): according to the municipality, a mistake is no reason for an exception. If you forget to stop instead, you cannot reclaim those costs from the municipality, because they go through your parking provider.
