SimplePark tells you your parking action is running and warns you before the end time you set runs out. What you get is up to you: the app has a screen where you choose, per kind of message, whether it arrives as a push notification, by email, or both. On top of that your phone has to give the app permission to push at all. Those are two separate things, and both have to be on.
Where you set it
- Tap Profile at the bottom.
- Choose Notifications.
- Per group, switch Push notification or Email on or off.
- For the top two groups, drag the slider to the interval you want.
Every change goes straight to your account; there is no save button. If loading fails you see Notification settings unavailable, and a connection plus another attempt is all it takes.
The four groups
- Active parking action: a reminder that your action is still running. Push only, at an interval of 15, 30, 60, 120, 180 or 240 minutes; hourly by default.
- Parking ends soon: the warning just before your end time. Push and email, from 5 to 60 minutes ahead in steps of five; fifteen minutes by default. The email is off by default.
- Parking ended: the message that your action has stopped. Push and email; the email switch also covers the parking confirmation you get afterwards.
- Top-up confirmation: the payment receipt when you top up your balance. Email only.
A group only shows the switches it can actually use. That is why Active parking action has no Email switch, and Top-up confirmation no Push notification.
Permission from your phone
The permission request does not come when you install the app, but the first time you log in.
On an iPhone the app asks for quiet permission. So you never see a yes-or-no dialog: notifications start arriving immediately, but only in the Notification Center, without a sound and without a banner on your screen. To make them more prominent, swipe the first SimplePark notification aside, open the options and say you want to receive them straight away from now on. Or go to Settings, scroll to SimplePark, tap Notifications and turn on Allow Notifications along with Lock Screen, Notification Center and Banners.
On Android the usual permission request appears. If you dismissed it, go to Settings, open Apps, choose SimplePark, tap Notifications and turn them on. While you are there, check that the app is set to Unrestricted under Battery, so notifications are not held back.
What happens outside the switches
On an iPhone, SimplePark also shows a card on your Lock Screen while a parking action is running. That belongs to the action itself, is independent of the switches above, and disappears by itself once your action has ended.
Messages about your payments cannot be switched off: the announcement of a direct debit, the message that you have reached your limit and the confirmation of a manual payment belong to your account and always arrive.
If nothing arrives while everything is on, see I am not receiving notifications. What to expect exactly is in Which notifications and emails you get.
