There are two places where a notification can be lost: in the app, which has a switch per kind of message, and in your phone, which decides whether the app may show anything at all. Start with the app; that takes two taps. If nothing comes of it, the cause is your phone, and on an iPhone it is nearly always the same one.
Check the app first
- Open the app and go to Profile › Notifications.
- Find the group your message belongs to, for instance Parking ends soon.
- Check whether Push notification is on, and for email the Email switch.
- Switch on whatever is off; the change is saved immediately.
Watch which channel a group offers: Active parking action has push only, Top-up confirmation email only. And the email for Parking ends soon is off by default, so you are not missing it: you never had it on. What each group sends is in Managing notifications and emails.
Permission from your phone
On an iPhone
This is by far the most common cause, and the most confusing one. The app asks for permission without a pop-up: you never saw a question, and you never declined anything either. Notifications do arrive, but quietly: in the Notification Center only, without a sound and without a banner. Swipe down from the top of your screen and see whether they are sitting there. If they are, everything works and you only have to make them more prominent.
- Open Settings and scroll to SimplePark.
- Tap Notifications and turn on Allow Notifications.
- Turn on Lock Screen, Notification Center and Banners.
- Under Focus, check that SimplePark is allowed in the mode you use, such as Do Not Disturb.
On Android
- Open Settings, go to Apps and choose SimplePark.
- Tap Notifications and turn them on.
- Go to Battery and choose Unrestricted, or turn off battery optimisation for SimplePark.
- Check that Do Not Disturb is off, or that it allows SimplePark.
Connection and version
Push messages arrive over the internet. Without mobile data or Wi-Fi they only appear once you have a connection again, and in a car park that can be later than you expect. Also install the latest version from the App Store or Google Play; after a major update of your phone an old version can miss notifications.
Still nothing?
Email [email protected] with the type of phone, your operating system version and which message you are missing. Mention whether notifications from other apps do arrive; that saves a round of questions.
In the meantime, do not rely on notifications alone. When you start, choose an end time you are sure to make: your session then stops regardless, and you never pay for longer than you meant to. See Setting an end time in advance.
