Where to park in Amersfoort

Amersfoort is introducing paid parking and permit parking in a growing part of the city, with the aim of sharing public space between residents, workers and visitors. For a visit to the city centre the municipality itself advises you to drive into a car park. There are plenty: from Stadhuisplein, Sint Jorisplein and Koestraat right by the centre to Eemplein and De Argonaut at the station. If you come from outside and continue by bus or train, P+R Mondriaanplein and P+R Barchman Wuytierslaan are the logical choice.

What parking costs, Amersfoort does not publish as a list on the website. The municipality points to an interactive parking map on which you see per spot whether you have to pay, on which days and hours that applies and what the rate is. For the car parks the municipality points to ParkeerService and Q-Park. So always check the meter or the map before you walk away.

The five parking zones

The city is divided into five zones that differ a good deal. In zone 1 visitors cannot park: there, 24 hours a day, only permit parking applies. In zone 2 and 3 the arrangement runs Monday to Saturday from 9.00 to midnight and on Sunday from 12.00 to midnight; in zone 2 you park on the street with a day ticket and pay per hour in a car park. Zone 4 is a morning zone, Monday to Saturday between 6.00 and 11.00, and zone 5 a night zone, Monday to Friday between 23.00 and 6.00. In the shopping areas a low rate for short-stay parking of up to two hours applies between 9.00 and 18.00. Outside those days and hours your car stands free in a zone.

Note: on 1 October 2026 new parking rules come into force in a number of neighbourhoods.

Paying on the street

On the street you pay at the meter or with a parking app. With SimplePark you start the session when you come to a stop and stop it when you drive away, so you pay per minute. Handy in a city where the end time differs per zone: you do not have to guess in advance how long you will stay.
