Where to park in Apeldoorn

Apeldoorn has three kinds of paid area. In Zone Centrum you pay the most, € 3.73 per hour, and you may moreover stand max. two hours: it is a short-stay zone, meant for a quick shop. In Zone Centrum-rand you pay € 3.21 per hour, but you may stay unlimited. In the neighbourhoods beyond that, paid parking also applies in some places, with per neighbourhood its own hours and rates; you read those off the parking meter.

If you stay longer than an errand, a car park is almost always cheaper than the street. The municipality has six within walking distance of the centre. The sharpest are Anklaar and Parkeren Leonorestraat, where the first 120 minutes are free and you then pay € 1.60 per hour, and Brinklaan and Haven Centrum at € 1.10 per hour and a daily maximum of € 8.80. If you go to the theatre, in Orpheus car park you can convert your parking ticket at the meter to a theatre ticket for twelve hours.

Paid hours and shopping Sundays

Paid parking applies Monday to Saturday between 8.00 and 18.00, on late-night shopping evenings through to 21.00 and on shopping Sundays from 12.00 to 18.00. That last one is the trap: those shopping Sundays are every first and last Sunday of the month, and in December all Sundays. On New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Whit Sunday and Christmas Day you do park free.

Licence-plate parking and the scan car

Apeldoorn works with licence-plate parking. You enter your plate at the meter and no longer put anything behind the windscreen; a scan car drives past and reads plates to see whether payment has been made. After an offence you get the additional parking-tax assessment sent home or digitally via MijnOverheid.
