Parking in and around the fortress

Doesburg has a small, historic city centre where parking space is scarce. The municipality divides it with a combination of paid parking, permit-holder spaces and a number of free sites at the edge. If you come for the Waag, the Grote Kerk or the shopping streets, the smartest move is to put your car at De Bleek, Turfhaven, De Linie, Halve Maanweg or Mauritsveld: there you pay nothing and walk straight into the city centre.

If you want to stand closer, one rate applies on the designated spaces for the whole municipality: € 1.60 per hour. That makes the sums simple: you need not work out which zone you are in. You can pay at the meter with coins or debit card, or with your phone.

Hours, public holidays and the permit zone

Paid parking applies from Monday to Saturday between 10.00 and 18.00. Outside those hours, on Sunday and on public holidays you need pay nothing. That exemption does not apply in the permit-holder zone: there the payment obligation runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

That zone covers a large part of the old streets inside the walls, from Bergstraat and Hoogestraat to Veerpoortstraat and the Paardenmarkt site. As a visitor you can stand there with a day ticket of € 15.50, for sale at a meter or via a parking app. On a number of sites, such as Kloostertuin, Markt and FD Rooseveltsingel, you can choose: ordinary hourly rate or a day ticket.

Paying by licence plate

Mobile parking in Doesburg works by licence plate. On the illuminated display above the parking meter is the zone number you enter in your app; always check that, because the numbers differ per street and site.
