Where to park in Delft

Delft has a parking system you are better off understanding in advance. The city is divided into coloured parking areas, and in the city centre, areas A and B, you pay no hourly rate but immediately € 30.00 for the whole day, however short you stand there. That is deliberate: the street in the city centre is there for permit holders and for visits that drop something off. If you stand at the Paardenmarkt or Voorstraat car parks, you do settle by the hour, at € 4.50, with that same amount as the daily maximum.

In the ring around it it is friendlier. In parking areas C, E, F, TU, Y and Z the first hour costs € 1.00 and only after that € 4.50 per hour. In area H, around the hospital, you pay € 3.00 after that first hour and a whole day does not rise further than € 10.00. And in all uncoloured areas on the parking map, on-street parking is free.

Car parks and paid hours

For a day in Delft the municipality itself recommends the car parks; they are cheaper than the city centre and open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There are four: Marktgarage on Willem Naghelstraat, Zuidpoortgarage on Zuidwal, Prinsenhofgarage on Kampveldweg and Phoenixgarage on Phoenixstraat. In Marktgarage you pay € 0.80 per fourteen minutes, with a maximum of € 20.60 per 24 hours. From all four you walk within a few minutes to the Oude and Nieuwe Kerk, Museum Prinsenhof or the market.

Paid parking in the city centre runs from Monday to Saturday from 10.00 to 23.59 and on Sunday from 12.00; in the other areas it only starts at 12.00 and does not apply on Sunday. On public holidays on-street parking is free, in the car parks it is not.

Paying with your phone

At the meter you enter your licence plate and pay by debit card or credit card; a ticket behind the windscreen is not needed. If you pay with an app, you settle by the minute and must stop the session yourself when you leave. With SimplePark you start that session as soon as you stop and stop it when you drive away. In the areas with a cheap first hour that saves money immediately.
