Each neighborhood has its own rate
The Hague has no city-wide rate but dozens of rate areas, each with its own code, own hours and own price. The base rate in the residential neighborhoods is € 2.75 per hour. In the core shopping streets of the center and on Strandweg in Scheveningen you pay € 7.15 per hour, and in between are, for example, Rivierenbuurt and Stationsbuurt at € 4.95. Where you park therefore makes a real difference; the municipality charges higher rates where it is extra busy.
The hours also vary widely. In many residential neighborhoods you only pay in the evening, from 18.00 to 24.00. In the center it starts at 09.00 and on Friday and Saturday night it runs until 02.00. In Scheveningen wider hours apply in the summer season than in winter. Always check the municipality's parking map first: it shows the zone code and rules for each street.
Day rate and registration duration
Two things stand out. First, the progressive day rate in the center and at Scheveningen: it rises from € 0.00 to a maximum of € 50.00, so a full day in the city center is deliberately expensive. Second, the maximum registration time: in the core shopping streets at most 120 minutes per parking action, and in some zones even less. That limit keeps spaces turning over.
To avoid the expensive zones, use the Park and Ride sites in and around the city and continue by public transport. Since 1 April 2026 other rates have applied in various places: in parts of the Oude Centrum and Scheveningen parking gets more expensive the longer you stay, while in the green-and-yellow zones, such as Loosduinse Hoofdstraat and Tesselseplein, the first 2 hours are cheaper.
Scan vehicles and the app
The Hague checks with scan vehicles that read license plates. Forgetting to register therefore shows up quickly, and that results in a parking fine (naheffingsaanslag). Also watch out for fake QR codes on parking meters in Scheveningen: the municipality does not use QR codes to pay.
