Paid parking in the center, permits around it
Zevenaar center has paid parking; the neighborhoods around it do not, but there are permit-holder zones. That distinction matters if you do not know the town: if you drive one street further to dodge the meter, you may well end up in a permit zone where you may only park with a permit or a scratch card. On the municipality's parking map you see per street which rule applies and which rate goes with it.
In the paid area parking costs € 1.20 per 60 minutes. In a number of spots in the center a reduced rate applies for those who stay longer: there you pay € 2.30 for 5 hours or € 4.30 for a full day. If you come for a working day, an appointment or a day's shopping, such a spot is therefore much cheaper than the ordinary hourly rate.
When do you pay?
The paid hours differ per day. From Monday to Thursday you pay between 9.00 and 19.00, on Friday until 21.00 because of late-night shopping, and on Saturday until 18.00. On Sunday you do not have to pay, and that also applies to the public holidays: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, King's Day, Ascension Day, Whit Sunday and Whit Monday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Paying at the meter or with your phone
At the meter you enter your license plate and pay by card or cash; you do not have to drive back to your car to put a ticket behind the windscreen. Next to each meter there is a zone sign for pay-by-phone. With SimplePark you start the parking action as soon as you are parked and you stop it when you drive away: you pay for the time you are parked, in the steps Zevenaar bills in, and not for a block of time you bought in advance. Handy if you do not know in advance whether it will be half an hour or an afternoon.
