Parking in Heemstede: rates, zones and hours

Two shopping areas, free further out

Heemstede keeps it small: paid parking only applies in the shopping areas Binnenweg-Raadhuisstraat and Zandvoortselaan-west. If you come for the shops on Binnenweg, you therefore almost certainly stand in an area with a parking meter. Outside those two strips you do not need to settle anything at the meter in the municipality.

The price is built from two parts: a start rate of € 0.30 per parking session and then € 2.15 per hour. At the parking meters a maximum parking duration of two hours applies, so it is deliberately a scheme for shopping and not for a day's work. If you want to stand a full day, you are better off at the car park on Leidsevaartweg at the NS station, where a maximum day rate of € 6.50 applies.

Licence plate, checks and the additional assessment

If you pay with your phone, you register your licence plate. That is exactly where it goes wrong in Heemstede: the municipality sends an additional parking-tax assessment if you do not pay parking fees or pay too little, but also if you pass on the wrong licence plate. One letter wrong and you have paid nothing. So always check what is in your app before you walk away. Parking enforcement is done by the municipality's own enforcement office; the tax side runs via Gemeentebelastingen Kennemerland Zuid. If you have a disabled parking badge, you may stand for at most two hours for free.
