Parking in Heemstede: rates, zones and hours

Heemstede keeps it small: on-street paid parking only applies in the shopping areas Binnenweg-Raadhuisstraat and Zandvoortselaan-west. If you are visiting the shops on Binnenweg, you will almost certainly be parked in an area with a parking meter. Beyond that, the municipality lists only one paid location: the car park on Leidsevaartweg at the NS station.

The price at the parking meters has two parts: a start rate of € 0.30 per parking action and then € 2.15 per hour. A maximum parking duration of 2 hours applies, so the scheme is deliberately meant for shopping, not for a day's work. If you want to park for a full day, you are better off on Leidsevaartweg, where a maximum day rate of € 6.50 applies.

License plate, checks and parking fines

If you pay with your phone, you register your license plate. That is exactly where things go wrong in Heemstede: the municipality issues a parking fine (naheffingsaanslag) if you do not pay or pay too little, but also if you register the wrong license plate. One letter wrong and you have paid nothing. So always check what is in your app before you walk away. Parking enforcement is done by the municipality's own enforcement office; the tax side is handled by Gemeentebelastingen Kennemerland Zuid. If you have a disabled parking badge, you may park for free for up to 2 hours.

Paying without the fuss
