Where to park in Hoogeveen

Paid parking in Hoogeveen concentrates on the squares and in the shopping streets of the centre; from the approach roads signs send you to the parking sites. The rate is the same everywhere and easy to follow: € 2.00 per hour. If you stay longer, square or long-stay parking for € 5.20 per day is the cheapest option. And if you want to pay nothing at all, you drive on to Mauritsplein on the north side of the centre, where parking is free.

A nicety you find in few towns is parking surfing. On Hoogeveen's ten parking squares you may drive from one square to another with the same ticket. If you want to stand under cover, there is De Kaap car park; on weekdays you pay the same hourly rate there as on the street, and on Sunday afternoon between 13.00 and 18.00 only € 0.30 per hour.

Paid hours and the two squares that differ

Paid parking applies from Monday through Saturday from 8.00 to 19.00, and on Friday it continues from 19.00 to 21.00 for late-night shopping. On Sunday and on public holidays you pay nothing. Two spots differ and that is the classic mistake here: on Stoekeplein and Van Echtenplein, including the street that belongs with them, you have to pay from Monday through Saturday until 21.00. If you stand there on Thursday evening, the clock therefore keeps running while it is already free elsewhere in the centre.

Licence plate, app and paying afterwards

You can pay in two ways. At the parking meter you enter your licence plate and pay with your debit card. If you choose mobile parking, you pass on your licence plate via an app and pay the parking charge afterwards, per minute, at the normal on-street rate; the zone number you need for that is at the parking meter on the street.
