Where to park in Hoogeveen
Paid parking in Hoogeveen concentrates on the squares and in the shopping streets of the center; from the approach roads signs send you to the parking sites. The rate is the same everywhere and easy to follow: € 2.00 per hour. If you stay longer, square or long-stay parking for € 5.20 per day is the cheapest option. And if you want to pay nothing at all, drive on to Mauritsplein on the north side of the center, where parking is free.
A nicety you find in few towns is parking surfing. On Hoogeveen's ten parking squares you may drive from one square to another with the same day ticket. If you want to park under cover, there is De Kaap car park; during the day you pay the same hourly rate there as on the street, Sunday afternoon included, and in the evening and at night only € 0.50 per hour.
Paid hours and the two squares that differ
Paid parking applies from Monday through Saturday from 8.00 to 19.00, and on Friday it continues from 19.00 to 21.00 for late-night shopping. On Sunday and on public holidays you pay nothing. Two spots differ and that is the classic mistake here: on Stoekeplein and Van Echtenplein, including the adjoining street, you have to pay from Monday through Saturday until 21.00. If you park there on a Thursday evening, the clock keeps running while parking is already free elsewhere in the center.
License plate, app and paying afterwards
You can pay in two ways. At the parking meter you enter your license plate and pay with your debit card. If you choose mobile parking, you register your license plate in an app and afterwards pay the normal on-street rate for the time you were parked, in the unit the municipality uses; the zone number you need for that is at the parking meter on the street.
