Where to park in Kampen
Kampen's historic city center sits on the IJssel and is compact, so you never have far to walk. In the center you pay € 2.50 per hour, but right at the edges there are four spots where parking costs nothing: Buitenhaven car park on Oranjesingel, Burgemeester Berghuisplein, Flevoweg and the parking spaces opposite the NS station. If you are traveling on by train, the P+R sites at Kampen and Kampen Zuid stations are free too.
For a short errand the city center is fine, for a day in Kampen it is not: the registration time is limited. In most spots you can register for up to 1.5 hours, and only on the Bongerd, Meeuwenplein, Van Heutszplein and part of the IJsselkade is that 3 hours.
Paid hours, blue zones and forbidden spots
Paid parking applies from Monday through Saturday from 8.00 to 22.00, starting earlier and finishing later than usual. On Sunday and on national public holidays you park for free. In parts of Kampen a blue zone also applies: there you set a parking disc and keep to the maximum time on the signs.
Watch the permit-holder areas in and around the city center. As a visitor you may not park there at all from Monday through Sunday between 8.00 and 22.00, even if you pay.
License-plate parking and the app
Kampen works with license-plate parking: at the meter you first enter your license plate and choose a time, and enforcement runs via that license plate. A ticket behind the windscreen is no longer needed. Above the meters are the codes of the parking zones, which you need if you park by phone. With SimplePark you start your parking action as soon as you have parked and end it when you drive off, so you pay for the time you were parked, in the unit Kampen uses, and do not have to estimate the registration time in advance.
