Where to park in Kampen
Kampen's historic city centre sits on the IJssel and is compact; you do not need much walking distance. In the centre you pay € 2.50 per hour, but right at the edges there are four spots where parking costs nothing: Buitenhaven car park on Oranjesingel, Burgemeester Berghuisplein, Flevoweg and the parking spaces opposite the NS station. If you come by train or want to transfer, the P+Rs at station Kampen and Kampen Zuid are free too.
For a short errand the city centre is fine, for a day in Kampen it is not: the registration time is limited. On most spots you register for a maximum of one and a half hours, and only on the Bongerd, Meeuwenplein, Van Heutszplein and part of the IJsselkade is that three hours.
Paid hours, blue zones and forbidden spots
Paid parking applies from Monday through Saturday from 8.00 to 22.00, starting earlier and finishing later than usual. On Sunday and on national public holidays you park for free. In parts of Kampen a blue zone also applies: there you put down a parking disc and keep to the maximum time on the signs.
Watch the permit-holder areas in and around the city centre. There you may not stand at all as a visitor from Monday through Sunday between 8.00 and 22.00, even if you pay.
Licence-plate parking and the app
Kampen works with licence-plate parking: at the meter you first enter your licence plate and choose a time, and enforcement runs via that licence plate. A ticket behind the windscreen is no longer needed. Above the meters are the codes of the parking zones, which you need if you park by phone. With SimplePark you start your session as soon as you stop and stop it when you drive off, so you pay per minute and do not have to estimate the registration time in advance.
