Where to park in Tiel

Tiel makes a clear distinction between short-stay and long-stay parking. In the shopping streets of the city centre, Damstraat, Gasthuisstraat, Vleesstraat and a number of streets around them, the parking duration is limited to 45 minutes. A second group of centre streets, including Achterweg, Kalverbos and Westluidensestraat, lets you stay 90 minutes. On Molenstraatje a one-hour limit applies. Fine for an errand, but for an afternoon of shopping you run out of time.

If you stay longer, go to one of the surface car parks on the edge of the centre, such as Burgemeester Hasselmanplein, Oude Haven, Veemarkt or Waalkade. There your car stands without a time limit and you also pay the lowest hourly rate, with a daily maximum. Westluidense Poort car park on Rechtbankstraat charges the same hourly rate and is even cheaper in the evening; for a theatre or cinema visit there is an evening ticket.

Until when you pay

Paid parking applies from Monday to Saturday between 8.00 and 18.00, and on late-night shopping on Thursday until 21.00. In the car park it runs through to 22.00. On Sunday, shopping Sundays and official public holidays parking is free, except on permit-holder spaces; the blue zone still applies then.

In the car park everything runs on licence plate. At the entrance and exit the barriers open as soon as the camera reads your licence plate; visitors get a ticket at the entry pillar and pay at the meter or contactless at the barrier. Between 1.00 and 6.00 the gate is closed, but you can exit all night.
