Two kinds of parking in Velsen
In Velsen you park freely almost everywhere. The exceptions are IJmuiden city centre and the beaches, and those two work very differently. The centre is an ordinary shopping-centre regime: € 1.30 per hour, register for a maximum of 2 hours, on Thursday until 21:00 and on Sunday and public holidays free. Three squares on the edge of the centre are always free.
The beach: season and zones
IJmuiderslag is divided into three zones with their own zone number, hourly rate and maximum registration duration. Paid parking applies there only in the season, from 15 April to 14 September, and then every day from 8:00 to 20:00. Zone 1 is the most expensive, zone 3 has a daily maximum of € 8.50 and is the spot for anyone staying a full beach day. The site at IJmuiden aan Zee is private, has no zone number and charges per half hour; there you pay at the barrier and not in the app.
Registering again
Velsen works with a maximum registration duration per zone. If that runs out and you want to stay, you have to register again. A session in the app that you simply leave running is therefore no guarantee: look in the app at the maximum duration of the zone.
