Two kinds of parking in Velsen
In Velsen parking is free almost everywhere. The exceptions are IJmuiden city center and the beaches, and those two work very differently. The center is an ordinary shopping-center regime: € 1.30 per hour, register for a maximum of 2 hours, on Thursday until 21:00 and on Sunday and public holidays free. Three squares on the edge of the center are always free.
The beach: season and zones
IJmuiderslag is divided into three zones with their own zone number, hourly rate and maximum registration duration. Paid parking applies there only in the season, from 15 April to 14 September, and then every day from 8:00 to 20:00. Zone 1 is the most expensive, zone 3 has a daily maximum of € 8.50 and is the spot for anyone staying a full beach day. The site at IJmuiden aan Zee is private, has no zone number and charges per half hour; there you pay at the barrier and not in the app.
Paying with your phone
In IJmuiden city center and in the three zones on IJmuiderslag you do not need to go to the meter: you can also pay with your phone.
