Vijfheerenlanden is a municipality where in most streets you simply park and walk on. Only at the busy spots is parking regulated, and then in three ways: paid parking, a blue zone, or parking for permit holders. Those spots lie in the two largest towns, Leerdam and Vianen, and the approach differs per town.
In Leerdam you can park free right by the center on two large car parks: Voorwaartsveld and the car park next to the NS station. In Vianen there are three: P1 Kanaalweg, P2 Sluiseiland and P3 Zomerdijk. For anyone staying longer, that is almost always the handiest choice.
Paid parking in Leerdam
Paid parking applies in Leerdam city center, with a maximum parking duration that differs per street. On Vrijheidsstraat and Ambtsplein you may stay a maximum of 12 hours, on Oranje Nassaulaan Noord 4 hours, and on Oranjeplein, Markthof, Meent-Westzijde, Bolwerk and Oranje Nassaulaan Zuid 2 hours. The hours are the same everywhere: from Monday to Saturday from 9:30 to 18:00, and on Friday until 21:00 because of late-night shopping.
The municipality does not publish an hourly rate on its parking page; you can see what you pay on the meter or in your parking app. If a meter does not work, you can report that day and night to the supplier's service desk.
Blue zones and enforcement
On the spots right by the shops a blue zone applies instead of paid parking, where you park free provided you use a parking disc. In Leerdam that is Kerkstraat and Vlietskant, with a maximum of 1 hour. In Vianen city center and on the Lijnbaan you may stay with the disc a maximum of 1.5 hours. If you have a European disabled parking card, you may park on a paid-parking spot without a ticket; you do have to set a parking disc, though, and stay a maximum of 3 hours.
The municipality enforces in a targeted way where the nuisance is greatest. Not paying gets you a fine, and illegal parking, for example on the sidewalk, costs even more.
