Received a fine even though you had paid

A parking fine (formally a "naheffingsaanslag", an additional parking tax assessment) while you had paid through SimplePark is annoying. Usually the difference is in a detail: the plate, the zone or the time. Sometimes it is the municipality's mistake. Either way, your overview in the app is your main evidence. Here is how to proceed.

Check your session first

• Plate differs. One wrong character is a different vehicle to enforcement. The fine is then justified; an objection has little chance.
• Zone differs. You paid in a different zone from where the car was. The fine is then formally justified too, although some municipalities are lenient if the rate was the same.
• Time differs. If the session had already stopped or not yet started at the time of the check, the fine is justified.

If a City row sits above Location, the town name differs from the location's name; if that row is missing, the two are the same.

Everything matches? Object

If plate, zone and time all match, the fine is unjustified. You object to the municipality within six weeks of the date on the assessment; the assessment says how. Attach the parking confirmation you received by email, or a screenshot of Activities › Activity showing Vehicle, Location, Parking time and Total cost.

What the fine is

A naheffingsaanslag is not a penalty but a tax assessment: the municipality charges the parking fee you should have paid, plus a fixed amount for its costs. In 2026 that is at most € 82 plus usually one hour of parking. You object to the municipality, not to the CJIB. All about it in our blog on parking fines.

Preventing it

Most fines come from a wrong plate or a wrong zone. Check both when starting; see Choosing the right zone. And only stop when you get in, not while you are still loading.
