Changing the licence plate during a session

Picked the wrong vehicle when starting? A running session cannot be edited. Stop it and start again. How to limit the damage.

Updated September 8, 2026

The vehicle on a running parking session cannot be changed. When you start, we register the plate with the municipality, and that registration is what enforcement checks. If it is wrong, there is only one fix: stop the session and start a new one with the right vehicle. Do so as soon as you notice, because until then the car is unpaid.

How to fix it

  1. Open the app and tap Stop action on your running session, or open it under Activities and tap Stop.
  2. Confirm in the Stop activity dialog.
  3. Tap the zone on the map again and tap Start action.
  4. In the Parking action block, tap the vehicle strip and pick the right plate in Vehicle.
  5. Tap Set end time, choose the time, tap Next and then Start.

If the right plate is not in the list, add it first under Profile › Vehicles with the + and the Add vehicle wizard.

What it costs

For the stopped session you pay the elapsed time plus a € 0.29 service fee. The new session carries a service fee again. What the elapsed time costs depends on the unit the zone bills in: if it charges per quarter of an hour or per hour, you pay a whole unit even if the session ran for only a few minutes. The zone's Rates say which unit applies. Even then it is considerably cheaper than a fine of around € 82 plus an hour of parking.

Why can it not simply be edited?

A parking session is a registration of one specific plate in one specific zone from one specific moment, in the national register all municipalities consult. Changing the plate afterwards would mean the car had paid retroactively, and the system does not allow that. A new registration is the only way. The end time is in fact the only thing you can adjust on a running session, with Extend.

Already received a fine?

If you received a fine while a session was running on another plate, that fine is unfortunately justified: the car's plate was not registered. An objection has little chance then. You can, however, show under Activities that you paid in good faith; some municipalities are lenient about it. See Received a fine even though you had paid.

Preventing it

Set your most used car as Default vehicle, explained as "Use this license plate automatically when starting a parking action", and give other vehicles a clear Name, such as "Hire car" or "Sanne's car". See Setting a default licence plate.
