Payment method declined

Does your bank decline the payment or the € 0.01 verification payment for linking an account? The cause is almost always the bank. How to fix it.

Updated September 8, 2026

If a payment is declined, it almost always comes from your bank's side: a limit, a security measure or a setting on your account. SimplePark itself declines no payments. You do not choose the payment method in the app but in Mollie's checkout: iDEAL, credit card or bank transfer. Go through the causes below; most you fix yourself in your banking app.

With a top-up

If it goes wrong, you end up on the screen Top-up failed: "We could not top up your balance. You have not been charged. Please try again." The usual causes:

  • Daily limit reached. Many banks have a daily limit for online payments. Raise it temporarily in your banking app.
  • Insufficient balance. Even a € 5 top-up is declined if your account holds less.
  • Security check. Banks sometimes block a first payment to a new recipient. Confirm the payment in your banking app or try again.
  • Wrong bank chosen. In the payment step, choose the bank where your account is held.
  • Stuck on the payment screen? If it says Processing payment, the app is still waiting for your bank's confirmation. That usually takes seconds; do not close the screen.

With the € 0.01 verification payment

You link an account under Balance › Linked accounts with the wizard Link payment method. There you give a recurring SEPA mandate and confirm it with your own bank through a € 0.01 verification payment. If that fails, you see Linking failed: "We could not verify your bank account. You have not been charged and your direct debit is not set up yet. Please try again." If your bank does not support our direct debits, the screen is called Account not supported.

  • Address missing. Without an address on your account you cannot link: "Add your address before you can turn on direct debit."
  • Bank not supported. Accounts at Revolut, Paysafe and Vivid, among others, cannot be linked for our direct debits. Use another account, or park on prepaid balance without a linked account.
  • Three accounts already linked. An account can hold at most three mandates. Unlink one first with Delete mandate.

If it does work, you see Account linked: "Your bank account has been linked successfully."

How to try again

  1. Check your balance and your daily limit in your banking app.
  2. Open SimplePark and start the payment again.
  3. Choose the right bank and confirm in your banking app.
  4. Wait until you are back in SimplePark before closing the app.

Does it keep failing?

Email [email protected] with the bank you use, the time and the message you saw. We can see at our payment provider the reason a payment was declined and tell you what exactly went wrong.

Parking now

If your car is in a paid zone and paying does not work, pay at the machine. What else you can do after a failed payment is in Payment failed.
