Language of the app and the website

The app is in Dutch and English and follows your phone. On the website you pick with the NL/EN switch. And this is how our emails work.

SimplePark speaks two languages: Dutch and English. Where you make that choice differs per part. In the app you do not make it yourself: there the language of your phone decides. On the website and in this knowledge base you switch with one tap. Below is what to expect per part.

The app follows the language of your phone

The app exists in Dutch and in English. There is no language setting in it: there is no row for language in your profile, and none anywhere else in the app either. Instead the app looks at your phone's language when it starts.

  • If your phone is set to Dutch, the app is Dutch.
  • If it is set to English, the app is English.
  • If it is set to a language we do not have, such as German, Polish or French, you get the English version. English is the fallback.

So if you want the app in the other language, change your phone's language in the iOS or Android settings and start the app again. There is no way to put the app in a different language from your phone, and the other way round, using the app does not change your phone's language.

The website and the knowledge base

On simplepark.nl you do pick the language yourself. At the top right of the menu there is a switch with NL and EN.

  1. Open simplepark.nl in your browser.
  2. Tap the switch with NL and EN at the top right of the menu.
  3. Pick the language you want to read; you stay on the same page.

Every article in the knowledge base exists in both languages and shares the same web address, apart from the /en prefix. So you can share an English link without trouble with someone who would rather read Dutch: they tap NL and land on the same article.

Which language we email you in

Your account has a language, and that determines the language of our emails, your invoices and your parking confirmations. You do not set that account language: the app passes along which language it is running in with every call to our servers, and your account takes that over. So if your phone is set to Dutch you get Dutch messages; if it is set to anything else you get English ones.

That carries through to the details. The name the app invents for a new vehicle follows the same language: "Sanne's car" on an English phone, "Auto van Sanne" on a Dutch one. You can change that name yourself afterwards, see Managing your vehicles.

What stays the same in both languages

Some text does not come from us but from the municipality or from a public register. You see it in Dutch in both languages, because you meet it in Dutch on the street and on paper too:

  • the names of municipalities, zones and locations on the map;
  • the zone codes and the signs we refer to;
  • the make and model of your vehicle, as the Dutch vehicle authority records them.

The amounts, the times and the rates are identical in both languages; only the text around them differs. If a translation is off or you miss a page in English, email [email protected] with the link. If it is your email address itself, see Changing your email address.
