Transaction fee per payment

Every successful top-up or direct debit carries a € 0.29 transaction fee, whatever the amount. Why the fee exists and how to keep it down.

Updated September 8, 2026

Every payment that goes through the app costs money to process: the bank and the payment provider charge for it. We pass those costs on as a transaction fee: € 0.29 per successful payment. The amount is the same for iDEAL, credit card and SEPA direct debit, and does not depend on how much you top up.

When you pay a transaction fee

  • On every top-up. Top up € 10 and your bank debits € 10.29; the top-up screen says "Excluding transaction costs of € 0.29".
  • On every direct debit: usually once a month, around the end of the month, and earlier as soon as your outstanding amount reaches the collection threshold.
  • Not on the € 0.01 verification payment, not on a failed payment and not per session.

Why not simply fold it into the service fee?

We could, but then the service fee per session would have to be higher for everyone. The parking fee goes entirely to the municipality, so our margin is only in the service fee. By charging the cost of a payment separately, someone who parks often on one top-up does not subsidise the payments of someone who tops up € 2 every time. That keeps the service fee at € 0.29 for everyone.

How to keep the transaction fee down

  1. Look under Activities at how much you spend on parking per month on average.
  2. Top up roughly that amount in one go, instead of several small amounts.
  3. Only top up again when your balance is nearly used up.

Direct debit

With direct debit you pay the transaction fee once a month, on the total of all your sessions. For frequent parkers that is the cheapest way. If you cannot switch it on yet, the app says Not yet available: direct debit becomes available once your account has built a positive payment history. See Setting up direct debit.

On your invoice

The transaction fee appears as a separate Transaction fee line on the invoice for the payment it belongs to. You find the invoices for your top-ups in the app under Invoices › Payments; you request them there and receive them by email. How the total cost of a session is built up is in What makes up the cost of a parking session.
