When you pay depends on your payment method. With credit you pay the moment your parking session stops: the cost then comes straight off your balance. With direct debit you pay afterwards, in one amount around the end of the month. In both cases the app shows exactly what was charged when.
With credit
- You top up. Your bank debits the amount plus a € 0.29 transaction fee; the app flags that fee beforehand with "Excluding transaction costs of € 0.29". After that the credit is on your account.
- You start a session. The app checks that your balance is sufficient but charges nothing yet.
- You stop the session. At that moment the parking fee and the € 0.29 service fee come off your credit.
While a session runs, the app shows the end time and the plate; under Current rate it says Coming soon for now, so the cost so far is not shown there yet. What you see beforehand when setting the end time is the calculation for that time. If your balance is too low to start, the app says Insufficient balance, with the minimum you need for the first minutes in that zone and a button labelled "Top up balance".
An end time is required for every parking session. That way no more can come off your credit than you saw there beforehand.
With direct debit
With direct debit switched on, your balance is allowed to go negative. The cost of every stopped session comes off your credit, and we make up the resulting shortfall with a debit from your linked account. That happens around the end of the month. If your outstanding amount reaches the collection threshold sooner, we collect sooner. That threshold starts at € 25 and steps up to € 50 and € 100 after a monthly statement has been paid without problems, so it follows your payment history, not how long your account has existed.
A debit is always announced in advance, by email and with a push notification: you get the announcement that we are about to collect automatically, and if the threshold triggered it, the message adds that you have reached your billing threshold. The email states which amount will be taken from which account and that it will happen in the coming week. The matching invoice is attached as a pdf.
On your bank statement
- Top-up: a payment to Mollie on behalf of SimplePark, on the day of the top-up. Which method it names depends on what you picked in the payment screen; usually iDEAL.
- Direct debit: a SEPA debit from SimplePark, in the week after the announcement email.
So your bank statement does not show each session separately. The per-session overview is in the app under Activities; your parking costs per month are under Invoices › Usage. See Viewing your monthly overview.
Refunds
You cannot transfer credit back yourself in the app; it stays there for future sessions. If you do want it paid out, email [email protected]. We can transfer it to your bank account; you get an announcement and a statement about it by email.
A charge you do not recognise?
Open the Activities tab and check whether a session is running or ran on one of your plates, for example by someone who has your plate in their account or a session you forgot to stop. A single session opens as Activity, with the amount including the € 0.29 service fee under Total cost. If you still do not recognise a charge after that check, email [email protected] with the amount and the date.
